Section "A" Fall Semester Courses
The courses begin in September and run for 13 weeks. The Fall exam is held at the end of the Fall Semester.
M1-A Business Management, Operations and Philosophy
This course gives you a basic understanding of business management emphasizing practical applications of business theory and concepts. Specific management functions such as planning, decision-making, and controlling are examined using a case study approach with supplementary material.
M2-A Canadian Business Law
This course provides you with an overview of Canadian business law and an understanding of basic legal terminology with an emphasis on contract law - the foundation of all commercial transactions. Requirements for creating legally binding contracts, common errors to avoid, and special contracts will be discussed.
M3-A Marketing Management
This course introducts you to the basic elements of the marketing management process, giving you a broad understanding of what marketing is and the vital role it plays in organizations. Students will identify and solve many business problems using a marketing perspective.
M4-A Financial Management
This course gives students a broad familiarity with managerial finance. This includes defining what managerial finance is, how it relates to other functions of business, how financial decisions further corporate objectives (particularly capital management and capital budgeting), short and long-term funding, and the cost of capital. Pre-requisite: Managerial Accounting
(M3-B) or equivalent.
Section "B" Winter Semester Courses
The courses begin in January and run for 13 weeks. The Winter exam is held at the end of the Winter Semester.
M1-B Managerial Communications
The focus of this course is on written and oral communication skills and strategies which prepare students to communicate effectively in a business environment. Students write memoranda, letters, reports, resumes and other business documents, and improve their skills in public speaking.
M2-B Managerial Process and Organizational Behaviour
Because management of human resources requires an understanding of behaviours, structures, and processes, this course is designed to help managers understand themselves and others, enabling them to adopt appropriate management policies and styles.
M3-B Managerial Accounting
Focusing on the needs for and uses of accounting data, this course examines basic concepts and procedures of financial accounting with the objective of providing an understanding of the role of accounting in both internal and external reporting. For a full appreciation of managerial uses of accounting data, the mechanics of bookkeeping will be addressed as time allows.
M4-B Policy and Administration
Canadian and international business cases are used to develop a "general management" perspective. Students are exposed to a wide range of business problems involving the examination of corporate opportunities, competencies, aspirations and responsibilities. Students practice and improve their decision-making skills as they assess the objectives of the corporation, develop strategies for achieving them and give recommendations that could be implemented.
