WHAT'S HAPPENING

The fourth annual Telecommunities Canada conference takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, August 15-18. It brings together people from across Canada and around the world who are interested in Community Networking and Community Access.

In the past four years, cyberspace has become increasingly accessible to people in communities large and small. The theme of TC'97 is Partnerships. Delegates will have the opportunity to explore the impact these grassroots organizations have made on electronic communications, and hear speakers from around the world share their experience, knowledge and visions for the future. The conference is hosted by Chebucto Community Net, one of the first community nets in Canada and is co-sponsored by Industry Canada.

ABOUT TELECOMMUNITIES CANADA

Telecommunities Canada is a federally incorporated, non-profit society that supports the existing and organizing community networks across Canada.

Their mission is to ensure that all Canadians are able to participate in community-based communications and electronic information.

Telecommunities Canada grew out of the 1993 and 1994 community network conferences in Ottawa because the attendees felt the need for a national body to co-ordinate lobbying efforts and provide information and assistance to new and existing community nets.
