The Clan MacColl is said to be a branch of Clan MacDonald of the Isles; also a
sept of Clan Stewart of Appin.
Tradition has it that the MacColls settled around Loch Fyne; hence,
following Clan Campbell who lived in nearby territory.
Evan McColl, born at Kenmore on Loch Fyne in 1808, became a poet
of great renown. Clarsach nam Beann ("The Mountain Minstrel")
was written by him.
