AML-NS was founded in 1992 to promote an understanding of the mass media, how their products are made, who makes them and for what reasons. By developing such an understanding, the goal is that students, educators, aprents and all media consumers will become more active in the way they relate to the mass media. AML-NS believes that a media literate person is an informed citizen.
AML-NS offers annual public discussion on media literacy issues, an annual media literacy workshop at the Atlantic Film Festival and speaker's for PTA's and community groups.
