The Association for Media Literacy-Nova
Scotia was founded in 1992 to promote an understanding of the
mass media, their effects, how they are made, by whom and for what
reasons.
Media literacy advocates believe that an understanding of all aspects
of mass media can result in more democratic citizenship and better
informed consumers.
AML-NS is a member of the Canadian Association of
Media Education Organisations (CAMEO/RACEM)
and part of the international network of media
education organisations, including Australia, New
Zealand, the United Kingdom, India and the USA.
"The information age isn't coming - it's here. And the most important
skill we can have is the ability to understand and process information in
our own best interests. Since we get much of our information from the
media, media literacy can help."
-Neil Andersen, Teacher
