The 'Finger' Utility
Finger is an Internet utility that allows you to retrieve information
about a user using their email address.
What information that is available is determined by the users host
system. That may include (as an example):
- If or when a user last logged on to their home system
- When they last read their mail...
In some instances, other ...more personal information is available
and you might what to 'finger' yourself to see what information your
system is making available about you.
Finger will ask you for a valid email address. And this in fact is one
way you can confirm a valid email address.
