HALIFAX DISTRICT P.T.A. - MINUTES, MEETING OF 19 JUNE 1995
2. Minutes. Consideration of April and May minutes was deferred.
3. Nominations for 1995-96 executive. Required will be (i) a co-chair, (ii) a vice-chair, and (iii) a secretary. It was agreed that the first step in the nomination process should be a notice to be sent to all P.T.A. Presidents to give information about the District P.T.A. and the issues it deals with, to request the name of the designated representative from each school for 1995-96, and to request nominations for the executive. The notice should be sent both in June and in early September, and a report on nominations made to the District P.T.A. meeting on 18 September.
4. Needs for 1995-96. In discussion, the following needs were
identified:
(a) District P.T.A. operations
5. School councils. In a brief discussion of the implications of recent provincial legislation, in the context of the Halifax District School Board's strategic plan, it was noted that there will be an adjustment process in which P.T.A.s as they presently exist will come under pressure to redefine their role. The objectives of school councils were generally considered to be unclear. The need for P.T.A.s was affirmed. It was agreed that a District P.T.A. meeting in the fall (October or November) should be given over to a detailed discussion of these issues.
6. First meeting for 1995-96. Will be at Oxford School at 7.30 p.m. on 18 September 1995 (Monday).
7. Adjournment, 8.40 p.m.
