Summit Accreditation Centre in Downtown Halifax

Halifax, April 21, 1995 --The Halifax Summit Office (HSO) announced today that a downtown site has been selected for the accreditation of delegates, media representatives, as well as the thousands of Nova Scotians requiring access to Summit sites in the days leading up to and during the international gathering.

"We are counting on local suppliers and merchants for a wide variety of services during the Summit as well as hundreds of volunteers," noted Malcolm McKechnie, HSO spokesperson. "These people will need easy access to the various Summit sites, and we can ensure that through accreditation."

There are very few areas in the downtown core where access will be limited to people who have been accredited. "Many special activities are being planned in downtown Halifax over the three days of the Summit," adds McKechnie. "We are encouraging as many Nova Scotians as possible to come take advantage of them."

For those who will need to be accredited, the Accreditation Centre's convenient downtown location is the former North American Life building at the corner of Brunswick and George streets. It is expected to be operational by the first week of May. All those needing accreditation will be notified by HSO or their employer.

The Summit is a gathering of leaders from the seven largest industrialized nations as well as representatives of the European Union and the Russian Federation. The event will take place in Halifax from June 15-17, 1995.
