Subject: The Tall Ships get closer tomorrow at Noon!!
Chebucto Community Net is making sure that their web cam is the best place on
the web to see the Tall Ships and will be zooming in to provide Internet
users an even closer view of the ships at noon on Friday, July 21st.
From their web site, www.chebucto.ns.ca/Webcam, the world can have front row
seats for the event and best of all: no crowds!
"We are extremely fortunate to have support from Dalhousie University and
Fenwick Place, which has enabled us to produce a high quality view of the
Halifax Harbour quick enough to be one of the first Internet providers to
show the world Halifax's view of the Tall Ships. We wanted to offer this
enhanced view of the Tall Ships as a gift to everyone who will not be able
to see this spectacular event in person," reports Krista Jera Olmstead,
Communications Chair for Chebucto.
Gareth Shearman, president of Telecommunities Canada, reported, "As far as I
know, this is the first time a Community Network Group has successfully
launched a Web Cam. I don't know of any others that have done it anywhere.
I think it's wonderful that Chebucto has accomplished something of this
magnitude as a Community Net".
Chebucto Community Net was founded in 1993 and is one of the oldest
community networks in Canada, as well as being the oldest continuous
Internet Service Provider in Halifax. Their mandate is, "To provide free
access to the Internet, promote freedom of ideas and communication on the
Internet and encourage individuals and community groups to use the Internet
as a vehicle for personal and community development." They continue to
provide free internet access and community services.
