Editors' 1995 Annual Report

Prepared by Ben Armstrong, editor-in-chief.

The editors have focused on producing a consistent look to each page, while keeping our guidelines flexible so we can organize our pages in a way that is suitable to each subject area. As well, we've provided tools to help users navigate our pages and contact the appropriate people when they have questions.

The popular "Web" button which provides Internet searching is an example of how the team works together to improve our Community Net. It started as an idea which was tried on a few pages. It attracted attention from the users and from other editors who wanted to contribute. After some fine tuning, we finally agreed to put this button on every page and at the end of the Help Desk index.

This tool will continue to be developed over the coming year, along with a relatively new tool, a "contacts" button which significantly improves over the older "comments" button by directing the user to the appropriate groups or individuals, rather than only supporting e-mail to the editor of the current page.

We've been slow to introduce graphical elements to our pages, but it remains on our wishlist.

It is our first priority to make the pages consistent and easy to use. Therefore, issues such as better indexing and searching will be the focus for the coming year.
