The Killer Vest |

The yarns led me in this case. I was obviously in a wild and decadent mood when I bought most of these yarns. Now what to do with them? Stained glass has always held a great appeal to me, so the idea of framing all these
colourful windows of exotic yarns appealed to me, as did beaded knitting and
multi-coloured cables, so I put them all together. I failed at the time of
knitting to incorporate any alpaca or quiviq otherwise I think I'd have most
fibres represented in this vest!
I began with the cable bobble band for the lower edge. Picked up stitches for each body section in turn along the side of the strip and ended up with 3 pieces (2 fronts and a back all attached to the bottom band). It was rather tricky to handle and would probably have been better grafted together afterwards - isn't hindsight wonderful! The front band was worked separately and measured carefully to allow some mitreing around the corners of the neck and then applied. To bridge the gap between the front and bottom bands, I knit a triangle, applied some I-cord and grafted to the cables at either end to make it look as if it were continuous. Almost a year later I heaved a sigh of relief and settled down to darn in the ends for a month. |
