I want to show knitting as not purely functional. So much glorious knitting gets loved to death and then there is nothing to show of the most successful pieces of the knitter's art.
I have always been fascinated by the work of M.C. Escher, the graphic artist, and wanted to translate some of his ideas into knitting. (see also the Duck pattern), fish were my next objective. I have a home full of fish tanks (with fish) and a pair of Fimo fish earrings which I adore. All these factors came together when I fell in love with a wool/mohair blend from Canaan Farm Mohair in Ontario - this was the excuse I needed to use them. I chose other complimentary yarns from my stash to create my palette and away I went.
I had also been looking for a place in which to employ shisha mirrors - the fish eyes offered the perfect opportunity.
